126,000 cbm closed storage operational

When you visit the Laurenshaven terminal of European Bulk Services (EBS) BV, you can’t miss the immense new building on the site. Over the past year, builders have made a massive effort to realise another new warehouse facility. Our new addition has a capacity of no less than 126,000 cbm, which brings EBS’ total storage capacity to 650,000 cbm.

Open for business

The Boreas coaster was the first vessel to take advantage of the new warehouse when it was unloaded on Wednesday, 20 February 2019. Around 1,400 tonnes of bauxite was weighed and then transferred to the new bulk storage warehouse by the certified Gottwald 6 crane.

Unique concept

The high-quality multi-purpose storage warehouse features several separate compartments, to keep storage shipments clean, dry, and free from contamination. A unique system of hatches developed in-house allows the crane operator to open and close a roof hatch with the press of a single button, in order to guarantee the quality of the products. The convenient location on the quay allows bulk goods to be unloaded directly from the ship to the warehouse.

Future

EBS is a terminal in transition, and we focus on the storage and trans-shipment of goods such as wood pellets, minerals, and agricultural products. Over the next few years, we will make significant investments to further expand our closed storage capacity. The permit for the next 50,000 cbm warehouse has already been approved.

EBS expands its crane fleet

As of today, a beautiful red Gottwald crane rises proudly over the Laurenshaven terminal in the Botlek. This 50-ton crane has a reach of more than 51 meters, and is capable of lifting products in and out of all of a ship’s holds. The Gottwald 6 is a welcome addition to the terminal’s existing stock of mobile and floating cranes. The new crane is also desperately needed in order to make optimal use of the major expansion of the closed storage capacity to more than 800,000 m3 in 2020. The crane was assembled in less than five weeks, and is now fully operational.

With the new crane, the construction of three multi-purpose warehouses with a combined capacity of 126,000 m3 (the first of which will be operational as of this summer), and the grant of a permit for the construction of a warehouse at the Europoort terminal, we are taking a big step forward in the realisation of our EBS Master Plan. When the permit is finalised, we will immediately begin construction on the 50,000 m3 warehouse at the Europoort terminal. The new warehouse space is needed as desperately as the new crane, as all of our warehouses have been contracted out to customers for the foreseeable future.

EBS takes new storage shed into service

Rotterdam, June 2017 – On 31 May, European Bulk Services (EBS) B.V., a 100% subsidiary of HES International B.V., has proudly taken its new Laurenshaven shed into use. The companies Cordeel, Tosec and TES constructed this multipurpose storage shed for EBS within a period of nine months, within the agreed deadline and timeline.

The concrete storage shed on the quay has a capacity of 60,000 m3 and is made up of six compartments of 10,000 m3. The shed is multifunctional and is therefore suitable for different dry bulk products. The hatches of the new shed are mobile and are operated remotely by the crane drivers. An advanced security system prevents the grab of the crane damaging the walls of the shed. The roof of the shed is fully insulated and prevents condensation from forming. A long-term contract has already been concluded for this shed.

EBS’s covered storage capacity now totals 525,000 m3. EBS is currently focusing on further expanding the Botlek site by building yet another new shed with a storage capacity of 126,000 m3. The preparations have commenced, and construction can start as soon as the building permit is received. Additionally, EBS plans to build a new storage shed at the Europoort site, with a capacity of 40,000 m3. With these new multipurpose sheds the existing storage capacity of 525,000 m3 will increase to 691,000 m3 supporting EBS’ position as a leading provider of covered storage for dry bulk products in the Port of Rotterdam.

Expands covered storage capacity

Rotterdam, 2nd May, 2017 – HES International announced today that its 100% subsidiary EBS will further expand its covered storage facilities in the Port of Rotterdam. At its Laurenshaven terminal, EBS will construct 126,000 cbm of storage sheds. Furthermore, EBS plans to construct an additional 40,000 cbm storage shed at its Europoort terminal. These new multi-purpose warehouses are in addition to the existing 525,000 cbm and will bring the total covered storage capacity to 691,000 cbm. Recently, EBS has taken a 60,000 cbm storage shed into operation which was announced in June 2016. This shed, supported by a long term contract, is suitable for various dry bulk products.

Jan de Wit, Managing Director of European Bulk Services: “The new storage capacity will enable us to better serve the demand for quality storage in the Port of Rotterdam. By investing into state of the art land-based facilities, we can reduce the cost for floating storage in barges while improving the quality and safety of operations. The design will be carried out with a strong focus on flexibility for our customers and our stringed safety and environmental standards.”

Jan Vogel, CEO of HES International adds: “Next to our ambitions to grow our liquid storage business, it is HES International’s strategy to also become a European market leader in the handling of bulk products that require covered storage, such as agricultural products, biomass and (specialty) minerals. We are therefore very happy that so soon after our announcement for a new petroleum storage terminal at Rotterdam’s Maasvlakte, we are now also making visible progress in expanding our warehouse facilities – a direction that we are also pursuing in other European ports.”

Expansion Rotterdam Laurenshaven location:

The new shed at the Laurenshaven will be equipped with a new crane and is amongst other suitable for minerals, biomass and agricultural products. Construction will occur on land previously used for storage of coal and is anticipated to commence immediately after receipt of the permit.
